Job category/type Schools - Teaching

Eslington is a thriving primary school situated across two sites in the Bensham/Teams area of Gateshead. We are a specialist provision that meets the needs of pupils, primarily from Gateshead, who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) with a primary need of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties.

We also offer up to seven Assessment, Reintegration and Outreach (ARO) places for children experiencing challenges within their mainstream setting on a temporary basis.

We currently cater for up to 84 pupils from Year 1 to Year
6. Increasing pupil numbers have created the need for this additional post. Our two sites are approximately a 20-minute walk apart.

Our vision and values are rooted in nurturing principles, coupled with high expectations, ensuring that every child can achieve and experience success.

We are looking for a Classroom Teacher to support our ARO provision. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and flexible teacher to gain significant experience in SEND and behaviour management. Staff are expected to work across both locations. This role would also suit someone seeking a one‑year secondment.

We are seeking a practitioner who:

  • Values and prioritises the development and achievement of the whole child
  • Can deliver high‑quality, trauma‑informed teaching within an SEMH setting, placing pupils’ social, emotional and mental health at the centre of all practice.
  • Can balance high expectations with nurture and support.
  • Is innovative and creative in designing effective individual learning experiences
  • Has consistently high expectations for pupil progress
  • Is committed to developing their understanding of factors affecting the emotional and social development of the child.
  • Works effectively as part of a team and demonstrates emotional resilience
  • Has strong behaviour management skills

The successful candidate will work with pupils across the primary phase and will provide both whole‑class teaching and one‑to‑one support. Flexibility to work at either the Rose Street and/or Hazel Road sites is essential. Candidates with a full UK driving licence should be willing to transport pupils between sites on occasion (business insurance required).

In return we can offer you:

  • A positive, caring ethos with a strong focus on learning for all
  • A committed and supportive Governing Body and staff team
  • Pupils who are eager to succeed
  • Excellent professional development opportunities in SEND
  • Opportunities for career development across all areas of teaching

If successful, you will be required to apply for an enhanced Disclosure.
