We are working in partnership with a welcoming and forward-thinking SEND school in Gateshead that is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to support pupils with a range of behaviour needs on a full-time basis.
The Role- Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with complex ASC needs
- Support communication, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning
- Implement structured routines and behaviour support strategies
- Assist with personal care where required, ensuring dignity and safety
- Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals
- Contribute to a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment
- Supportive, inclusive environment with small class sizes
- Collaborative multi-disciplinary team (teachers, therapists, support staff)
- Strong leadership and professional development opportunities
- Positive, child-centred ethos that celebrates every student's progress
- Access to specialist training (eg autism approaches, behaviour support, therapy‑led strategies)
- Agency staff are fully integrated into the wider school team
What We're Looking For:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly ASC
- Understanding of behaviour, communication, and sensory needs
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Willingness to support personal care needs
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Reliable, committed, and looking for a long‑term opportunity
- Experience in a specialist provision or ASC unit
- Knowledge of approaches such as visual supports, structured teaching, or intensive interaction
- Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or
3)
- Full‑time role with an immediate start
