Primary SEN Teaching Assistant

We are seeking caring, enthusiastic and resilient SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils within primary schools across Gateshead. Successful candidates will work closely with teachers and SENCOs to provide tailored support for children with a range of additional learning needs.

This role is ideal for experienced Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, childcare professionals or individuals with experience supporting children or young people with additional needs.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Deliver tailored one-to-one support for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
• Support small groups of children during lessons and intervention sessions.
• Assist pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, moderate learning difficulties and other additional needs.
• Support children in developing their communication, social interaction and emotional regulation skills.
• Encourage independence while providing appropriate levels of support.
• Work alongside teachers to adapt classroom activities and resources to meet individual learning needs.
• Support pupils during structured learning, playtimes and transitions throughout the school day.
• Implement behaviour support strategies and contribute to positive behaviour management.
• Record observations and contribute towards pupil progress reviews where appropriate.
• Build positive working relationships with teaching staff, parents and external agencies.
• Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.

• Previous experience working with children or young people is highly desirable.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEN is advantageous.
• A caring, patient and empathetic approach.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
• A genuine passion for supporting children's education and wellbeing.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
