A supportive Gateshead primary school is seeking a Psychology graduate to join its team as a Learning Support Assistant from September.

This role is particularly suited to graduates who are fascinated by why children behave the way they do, how they develop, how they learn and how the right support can positively influence their outcomes
.

You'll gain first-hand experience working with children across the primary age range, including pupils who require additional support with their learning, behaviour, communication or emotional wellbeing.

The school has a strong focus on inclusion and believes that understanding each child's individual needs is essential to helping them succeed.

You'll be joining a collaborative team of teachers and support staff who work closely together to provide children with the structure, encouragement and personalised support they need.

As a Psychology Graduate Learning Support Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils on a one-to-one and small group basis.
• Help children overcome academic, behavioural and emotional barriers to learning.
• Support pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and other additional needs.
• Encourage positive social interaction and communication.
• Support children with emotional regulation and confidence-building.
• Help implement individual learning and support strategies.
• Use positive and nurturing approaches to support behaviour.
• Observe pupils and communicate relevant changes in behaviour or engagement.
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO.
• Help create a structured, predictable and positive learning environment.

You'll have the opportunity to develop practical experience in:

Child Development: Understanding how children develop socially, emotionally and academically.

Behaviour: Seeing how different strategies can influence engagement and behaviour.

Neurodiversity: Developing your understanding of Autism, ADHD and individual differences.

Emotional Wellbeing: Supporting children with confidence, emotional regulation and social development.

SEND: Understanding how schools identify and support additional needs.

Professional Practice: Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and other professionals.

• Psychology degree or related qualification.
