Milk Education is currently recruiting enthusiastic Graduate SEND Learning Support Assistants to support schools across Gateshead, Durham, and the surrounding areas

The Role

As a Graduate SEND Learning Support Assistant
, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and other support staff to provide individualised support to students with a range of additional needs.

You will provide one‑to‑one and small group support, helping students access learning, develop confidence, regulate their emotions, and become more independent. You will gain valuable experience understanding how different needs can impact learning, behaviour, communication, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEND
  • Support students to access the curriculum and engage positively with learning
  • Build positive, trusting, and professional relationships with students
  • Support students with their confidence, emotional regulation, and wellbeing
  • Encourage independence, resilience, and positive learning behaviours
  • Support students with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and learning needs
  • Work alongside teachers and SENCOs to implement individual support strategies
  • Adapt activities and communication approaches to meet individual student needs
  • Monitor student engagement, behaviour, wellbeing, and progress
  • Provide feedback to teachers and relevant support staff
  • Assist with classroom activities and targeted interventions
  • Support students during transitions, break times, and other activities where required
  • Follow individual support plans, safeguarding procedures, and school policies
