Protocol Education is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant to work within a specialist SEMH secondary school in Gateshead
, starting in September 2026.
This school is looking for someone who can bring energy, enthusiasm and a positive attitude to the classroom while supporting students who may need additional help with their behaviour, emotional wellbeing and engagement with education.
If you're someone who enjoys working with young people, building relationships and getting stuck in, this could be an excellent opportunity.

Monday-Friday | 8:30am-4:30pm
Term-time only
Long-term with potential to become permanent
You will work alongside teaching and pastoral teams to help students feel supported, understood and ready to learn.
You could be:
- Supporting students across KS3 and KS4
- Working one-to-one or with small groups
- Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning
- Supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
- Encouraging students to engage positively in lessons
- Helping develop literacy and reading skills
- Supporting students with written work
- Encouraging positive choices and attitudes
- Providing consistent and positive role modelling
- Supporting students during breakfast and lunchtime
- Building relationships that encourage trust and confidence
This isn't a role where you simply sit at the back of the classroom.

You might be helping a student complete an English task one minute and joining a game of ping pong at lunchtime the next.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
