Gateshead Council's Provision for Young People supports young people aged 14-24 to develop the skills, confidence and qualifications they need to progress into education, employment or training. The service delivers alternative provision, youth skills programmes, supported internships and SEND Steps to Work programmes, working closely with learners, families, employers and partner organisations to provide inclusive, personalised and high-quality learning experiences that help young people overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes.

• Design, deliver and review engaging, innovative and personalised learning programmes for young people across a range of provision.
• Assess learner needs through initial, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment, using this information to plan effective learning journeys.
• Support learners to achieve positive outcomes including increased confidence, improved wellbeing, further learning, employment, volunteering and training opportunities.
• Embed English, maths and digital skills into learning activities, helping learners develop essential life and employability skills.
• Create enrichment opportunities both inside and outside the classroom that enhance learners' knowledge, skills and experiences.
• Build positive relationships with young people, families, employers, communities and partner organisations to increase participation and progression.
• Provide outstanding pastoral support and create safe, supportive and inclusive learning environments where learners can thrive.
• Use innovative approaches to engage young people and help them overcome complex barriers to learning.
• Maintain accurate learner records and management information in line with service requirements.
• Contribute to quality assurance, quality improvement and business improvement processes to ensure excellent learner outcomes.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to continually improve the learner experience.
• Undertake any other responsibilities appropriate to the grade of the post.

• A Level 4 teaching or training qualification (or above), together with a qualification or relevant experience in Youth Work or Alternative Provision, and a commitment to inclusive and anti-discriminatory practice.
• Experience of planning and delivering engaging, creative, high-quality learning programmes for young people, particularly those facing complex barriers to learning, social, emotional and mental health challenges, exclusion from education, or SEND.
• Experience of carrying out initial, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment and using outcomes to inform learning and measure progress.
• The ability to embed English, maths and digital skills within learning programmes, including supporting learners towards Functional Skills qualifications through innovative teaching approaches.
• A proven ability to build positive, trusting relationships with young people using relational and trauma-informed approaches, providing effective pastoral support that promotes wellbeing and engagement.
• Experience of supporting young people to overcome multiple and complex barriers to learning, identify progression opportunities and move towards positive destinations, including further learning and employment.
