Job Summary
We are looking for dynamic, highly motivated registered children's nurses to join the paediatric nursing team at QE Gateshead. The post holder will work across the Pea Pod, day unit and outpatient area delivering high‑quality care to children and their families. Additional study and training will be required as appropriate. The successful applicant will work flexible shift patterns and rotate between departments.

- Promote and deliver patient‑centred care aligned with the Trust vision and Nursing and Midwifery strategy.
- Take a lead role in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Deputy Sister.
- Deliver all aspects of care and may supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff.
- Manage the patient’s clinical journey along agreed pathways, supporting evidence‑based practice.
- Provide the highest standard of safe, effective and compassionate care in line with local, national standards and the NMC Code.
- Support continuous improvement in line with the clinical governance framework and NHS performance framework.
- Provide clinical advice to the team to facilitate effective patient care.
- Continually develop professionally to meet service requirements.
- Participate in preceptorship/mentorship and development programmes.
- Degree/Diploma in Children’s Nursing
- NMC registered
- Recent experience with children and young people
- Taking and recording of observations
- Recognition of the sick child
- Up‑to‑date with current issues in paediatric nursing
- Ability to prioritise workload
- IT skills
- Organisational skills
- Teaching and assessing qualification
- Experience working in an emergency care setting
- Phlebotomy and cannulation
- Minor injuries management
