This role offers the opportunity to rotate between the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead
, and satellite sites including Blaydon Primary Care Centre and our new Community Diagnostic Centre at the Metrocentre
. You will support a broad range of imaging services including CT, MRI, Fluoroscopy, Interventional Radiology, Ultrasound and General X-ray
, working alongside Consultant Radiologists, Radiographers, Sonographers, Nurses and administrative teams.
As a higher-level support role, you will contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the department while supporting patients through all stages of their diagnostic journey. This is a varied and rewarding post within a modern, expanding service where no two days are the same.

Main duties of the jobAs a Radiology Support Worker (Higher Level), you will play a central role in supporting the delivery of safe, efficient and patient-centred imaging services across a 7-day service.
Working as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will provide practical, clinical and organisational support across imaging modalities, helping to maintain patient flow, prepare examination areas, and support diagnostic and interventional procedures. You will also take responsibility for supervising and supporting Radiology Support Workers, contributing to staff coordination and service continuity.
The role requires flexibility, excellent communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities within a busy clinical environment. You will support high standards of care, dignity and safety, while contributing to the effective operation of the Radiology Department across multiple sites.

Job responsibilitiesThe Radiology Department operates a 24-hour service, and this role supports a 7-day service. You will work flexibly across the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and satellite sites, covering rotational shifts Monday to Sunday between 8.00am8.00pm
, adapting to service needs as required.
As a Radiology Support Worker Higher Level
, you will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while providing day-to-day supervisory support to Radiology Support Workers
. You will assist senior staff with coordinating service cover, maintaining workflow, and responding to operational pressures within a busy clinical environment.
You will provide hands-on clinical and practical support across imaging modalities, including preparing examination rooms, assisting during diagnostic and interventional procedures, and supporting patients before, during and after examinations. This includes undertaking delegated clinical duties such as baseline observations, phlebotomy, cannulation and pregnancy testing when competent, and escalating concerns appropriately.
You will ensure high standards of infection prevention, equipment safety and stock control, completing daily checks of emergency equipment and maintaining accurate documentation. Strong organisational skills, the ability to manage interruptions, and a flexible approach are essential to support efficient service delivery and a positive patient experience.
