Position OverviewAs an Ambulance Care Assistant apprentice, you will be at the heart of patient care, providing safe, compassionate transport for patients who need support getting to and from hospital appointments, clinics, or treatment centres. You will gain hands‑on experience while completing a recognised qualification.
Training & DevelopmentInitial training consists of a 7‑week pass or fail course that includes practical driving and classroom‑based learning at our education centre in Gateshead. Upon passing this initial course we will support you to achieve Level 3 Certificates in Ambulance Patient Care and in Patient Care Services Ambulance Driving. If you do not already hold literacy and numeracy level 2 or equivalents, you will be supported to obtain them.
WorkingHours & Schedule
This is a 365‑day service. You will work days, nights, bank holidays (including Christmas), evenings and weekends. Relief shifts are designed to cover annual leave and sickness. If you are not allocated a training course immediately, you will be placed in a pool for up to six months to find a base closer to your home.
Role ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will be a key member of the transport team, assisting in the delivery of high quality and effective care and the transportation of patients in line with pre‑agreed standard operating procedures, within their scope of practice and associated training. Ambulance services not only transport patients, but also provide on‑scene treatment and en‑route care. Our dedicated clinical assessment service delivers the most appropriate care from the beginning of the patient journey, and our specialised HART branch responds to explosions, terrorist attacks and more.
