We are looking for an ambitious and talented leader with a proven track record of delivering operational excellence, developing services, and building high‑performing teams. This is an excellent opportunity for both an established and an aspiring Service Line Manager to lead the operational delivery and performance of the Radiology Service within the Clinical Support and Screening Business Unit.

As the Service Line Manager for Radiology, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of safe, high‑quality, and efficient diagnostic imaging services. Working in partnership with clinical and professional leaders, you will support the delivery of the Trust’s strategic priorities, including improving patient access, reducing diagnostic waiting times, and enhancing patient experience. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of imaging services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon PCC, and Metrocentre Community Diagnostic Centre, to meet increasing demand and support wider Trust transformation programmes.

You will have experience of managing complex services, delivering performance against key operational targets, leading change, and ensuring high standards of governance, quality, and financial performance. Main duties of the job

As the Service Line Manager for Radiology, you will provide visible and effective operational leadership for a busy and evolving diagnostic imaging service. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, responsive, high‑quality and financially sustainable services.

You will lead on the day‑to‑day operational management of the service, ensuring performance against key national and local targets, including diagnostic waiting times, patient access standards and productivity, and will work within a triumvirate leadership model alongside the Clinical Lead, Lead Radiographer, and Radiology Operational Managers providing leadership across a comprehensive range of imaging services.

You will use data and insight to drive continuous improvement, maximise capacity, and support the delivery of the Trust’s diagnostic recovery and transformation programmes.

The role offers the opportunity to influence the strategic direction of Radiology, developing business plans, leading service redesign, and identifying opportunities for innovation and service development and you will work collaboratively with clinical, operational and corporate colleagues, as well as external partners, to improve patient pathways and deliver excellent patient outcomes.

You will also be responsible for the effective management of resources, workforce planning, governance, quality, and financial performance, ensuring the service continues to provide the highest standards of patient care.

Person Specification Education
  • Management and/or leadership qualification / training
  • Educated to degree level in either a health related, business or leadership field, or equivalent in depth experience.
Experience
  • Significant and proven senior management experience
  • Experience of undertaking strategic planning
  • Experience of leading change programmes
  • Successful track record of managing change in a complex environment
  • Experience of leading and directing senior clinical and non-clinical teams in achieving key performance indicators
Communication
  • Effective negotiating, influencing and networking skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead and influence decisions and strategy within the service line management teams
