Overview

Who we are & what we stand for. Do you want to use data, digital tools and insight to shape decisions across one of the most ambitious place-based portfolios in the UK? If that sounds like you, keep reading – we might be the perfect match. We’re delighted that you’re interested in working with us. You’d be joining us at a pivotal time, as we deliver a significant programme of regeneration, infrastructure and place-based investment across Gateshead.

We are ambitious, forward-thinking and committed to making evidence-based decisions that improve outcomes for our communities. At Gateshead Council, you’ll be part of a team that values innovation, supports new ideas and promotes a collaborative, forward-looking culture.

Supporting services that make a difference to our communities

The Economy, Innovation and Growth Group is delivering a large and complex portfolio of regeneration, housing, transport and energy programmes. As our PMO Portfolio Analyst, you will play a key role in transforming how we understand and manage this portfolio. You will help build a modern, data-driven PMO function—providing clear, real-time insight that supports better decision-making, stronger governance and improved delivery outcomes.

This is an opportunity to shape how a multi-billion-pound portfolio is analysed, understood and communicated at the highest level.

What you will get to do

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and continuously improve the portfolio performance framework, ensuring alignment with wider organisational reporting and governance requirements
  • Create automated, digital and data-driven reporting solutions that replace manual processes and provide real-time portfolio insight
  • Work with Programme Delivery Leads and senior stakeholders to develop and maintain a live, integrated portfolio dashboard
  • Analyse portfolio performance, financial data, risks, dependencies and delivery confidence to provide clear, forward-looking insight
  • Identify emerging trends, risks and constraints across the portfolio, supporting early intervention and informed decision-making
  • Translate complex data into clear, visual and narrative insight for senior leaders and governance boards
  • Ensure reporting and analysis aligns with national standards for project, programme and portfolio management frameworks
  • Support governance processes through the production of high-quality, evidence-based reporting and insights
  • Coordinate portfolio-level risks, issues and dependencies, identifying cross-cutting themes and systemic challenges
  • Support prioritisation, pipeline development and investment planning through robust analytical insight and scenario modelling
  • Promote digital, data and AI-driven approaches across the PMO, supporting continuous improvement and innovation
What you will bring

You will bring:

  • Portfolio and programme management knowledge: Understanding of project, programme and portfolio environments, ideally within a public sector or similar context
  • Digital and data expertise: Experience of using digital tools, automation and data analysis techniques to produce high-quality reporting and insight
  • Analytical and insight capability: Strong ability to analyse complex datasets and translate them into clear, evidence-based insights for decision-making
  • Reporting and visualisation skills: Experience of developing dashboards, reporting tools or data models that present complex information clearly
  • Governance and assurance awareness: Understanding of governance, assurance and reporting requirements within programme or portfolio environments
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication: Ability to work with a range of stakeholders and communicate complex information clearly and effectively
  • Qualification or equivalent experience: Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in programme, project or portfolio delivery or a related discipline
