Overview

HGV Mechanic —

Location:

Gateshead — Pay: £43,000 - £18.79 per year (as stated in the original posting) —

Shifts:

2-week rotating shift pattern;
Week 1:
Monday to Friday 6:00am to 2:00pm;
Week 2:
Monday to Friday 11:00am to 7:00pm with Saturday 6:00am to 2:00pm. Contract Type:
Full time / Permanent role. Overtime paid at 1.5x.

About your new company:
My client is a national Fleet Maintenance company that, due to consistent growth and contract wins, is searching for an HGV Technician to join their team. You will play a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability and performance of their fleet. Your primary responsibility will be to carry out thorough inspections, servicing and repairs on vehicles, trailers and all associated equipment, working to agreed maintenance schedules and following established operating procedures.

You will diagnose faults, complete corrective work, and ensure all assets meet legal, safety and operational standards.

You will take ownership of maintaining accurate service records, identifying potential issues before they become problems, and contributing to a high-performing workshop environment. With a strong focus on safety, quality and efficiency, you will help keep our fleet running smoothly and support the business in delivering excellent service to our customers.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out duties in a manner consistent with established safety, environmental and maintenance procedures.
  • Work with VMU Shift Co-ordinator / FLM and Logistics team to ensure vehicle availability in accordance with delivery schedules.
  • To achieve shift KPIs by working in an efficient and effective manner.
  • To comply with laid down safety procedures, highlighting any noncompliance issues to the VMU Co-ordinator / FLM.
  • To ensure the effective use of resources available to carry out specific tasks or duties.
  • To ensure that vehicles and other fleet assets are maintained in accordance with Company and VOSA standards.
  • Assist the VMU Co-ordinator / FLM to liaise with the Transport and Logistics departments about vehicle availability.
  • To ensure that established sub-contractors are effectively utilised.
  • To work flexibly in carrying out any other VMU duties, as required.
Qualifications
  • The successful HGV Mechanic must be fully skilled with industry-recognised qualifications (City & Guilds / NVQ Level
    3) in heavy vehicle service, maintenance and repair.
  • You will have in-depth knowledge of HGVs and trailers.
  • Hold an HGV licence Class 1 (desirable but not essential).
