Job Overview
A Warehouse Operative’s primary responsibilities include receiving, storing, picking, packing, and dispatching goods while maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring compliance with warehouse health and safety standards. The role is based primarily at our site in Gateshead, with possible travel to Cramlington. The role reports to the Warehouse Supervisor.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn this role the Warehouse Operative will be responsible for the following:
- Attend scheduled daily Start of Shift Warehouse meetings
- Complete start of shift safety checks on all material handling equipment
- Packing and dispatching orders whilst maintaining accurate records and documentation
- Receiving deliveries, booking in using the Company ERP system, and locating stock into assigned locations
- Load/unload goods onto vehicles with use of FLT when required
- Operate forklifts, pallet trucks, and other equipment in line with training and safety guidelines
- Ensure customer orders are packed in line with packaging specifications to keep finished goods safe and quality assured
- Demonstrate attention to detail regarding goods, including prompt checks for damage, basic inspection, and reporting faults or delivery/paperwork errors
- Communicate with supply chain when delivery errors occur
- Picking and kitting of product/parts for production using the Company WMS
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised warehouse environment, ensuring daily 5S standards are adhered to
- Conduct regular stock checks and assist with cycle counting and inventory accuracy, including end‑of‑year financial stock check
- Build product systemically using WMS
- Move finished products to dispatch or storage areas
- Comply with company policies, including health & safety, quality, and environmental procedures
- Report any H&S concerns to Warehouse Supervisor
- Maintain a flexible approach to meet tight timescales and business needs – short‑notice overtime may be required occasionally
- Support production – holiday/sickness cover if required
- Communicate with logistical team to ensure on‑time/accurate customer collections
We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:
- Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment
- Experience with picking, packing, loading, and unloading goods
- Familiarity with stock control and inventory management processes
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills
- Physical fitness and ability to lift and move goods safely
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills
- Ability to follow instructions and health & safety procedures
- Teamwork and good communication skills
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic
- Problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently when required
- Basic computer skills for inventory and stock management systems
It would also be great (but not essential) if you also had:
- Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS)
- Knowledge of 5S
A recognised qualification is required to demonstrate proficiency in key skills:
English Literature, English Language & Maths. (Relevant experience could also be considered)
