Role Summary
We are seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join our team in Gatineau! The Estimator supports the pursuit and successful delivery of mechanical sheet metal and piping projects by preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates. Working closely with internal teams, clients, and suppliers, the Estimator develops pricing, scope breakdowns, and documentation that set projects up for success from bid through execution.

Produce accurate, well-structured estimates that support successful bids and predictable project outcomesSupport business growth by identifying risks, efficiencies, and cost‑saving opportunitiesEnable seamless project execution through clear scope definition, pricing breakdowns, and project handoffStrengthen internal, supplier, and client relationships through collaboration and technical expertiseDuties and Responsibilities:
Review proposal specifications and perform quantity take‑offs for labour, equipment, and materialsPrepare accurate estimates and proposals for mechanical plumbing and piping construction projectsBreak projects into logical scopes with clear labour and cost breakdownsIdentify value‑engineering and cost‑saving opportunities to meet client needsMeet with clients to understand requirements and clarify scopeEngage with Modern Niagara suppliers to build relationships and negotiate pricingProvide technical and estimating support to Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Business Development teams
Prepare estimating documentation and support project handoff meetings for awarded workLiaise with Project Managers to ensure scope, assumptions, and pricing are clearly understoodMust haves:
3+ years of experience preparing cost estimates and proposals for mechanical, plumbing, and/or piping construction projectsExperience estimating as both a subcontractor and prime contractorStrong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documentsExperience with estimating and construction software (, Trimble, Auto Bid, Bluebeam, Procore)Solid understanding of construction methods and materialsAbility to produce accurate estimates under tight deadlinesIntermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong focus on ExcelNice to haves:
Experience with commercial and institutional construction projectsExposure to project turnover and coordination with delivery teamsStrong communication skills and comfort working cross‑functionallyThis is a new position. Expected annual compensation; $65,000 - $80,000.
