As a member of the LEO Satellite Operations team, the LEO Flight Operations Engineer will provide technical support for engineering aspects related to in-orbit operations of all on-board subsystems on the Lightspeed satellite bus, flight dynamics operations and satellite control systems used to operate the Lightspeed Constellation. The Flight Operations Engineer supports maximizing satellite subsystem health, performance and commercial availability. This includes working in collaboration with others within the Satellite Operations team as well as other Lightspeed segments to improve efficiencies, through innovation, across all facets of in-orbit fleet operations.
Responsibilities
Supports integration of Sat Ops systems and development of satellite operations products;
Supports testing, validation and verification of SCS systems;
Supports development of satellite operations products and implementation into the SCS systems;
Supports Satellite Operations Centre (SOC) concepts of operation and administrative systems development;
Working with Space Segment team, support evolution of satellite operations concept of operations (CONOPS) for LEOP and routine operations phases;
Participates in testing, validation and verification of Sat Ops products, SCS system deliveries and training;
Supports maintenance of satellite operating procedures
Supports automation development for satellite operations procedures; tracks performance;
Provide inputs to Satellite Data Platform (SDP) design, analytics and maintenance; focusing on short and long term trending of satellite TM data;
Details satellite operations processes within the SOC; refining satellite control guidelines outside of Sat Ops;
Provide engineering oversight to satellite controllers during all phases of operations;
Provide technical assistance and/or training on all matters pertaining to the development and use of the satellite operations products and supporting trending and analysis tools.
Education and Experience
Minimum Bachelor degree in an Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering, or the equivalent;
A background in Aerospace technologies and expertise in satellite operations software systems and development;
Knowledge of satellite control systems would be an asset;
Knowledge of satellite subsystem design and operation;
Knowledge of electronics, control systems and radio frequency communications;
Knowledge of satellite orbit dynamics theory;
Knowledge of containerized software platforms is an asset;
Experience in developing software with a variety of platforms and programming tools;
Strong analytical, problem solving, real-time decision-making, planning and organizational skills;
Excellent verbal and written English communications skills;
Independent and self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment
Experience in C and Python programming as well as databases is an asset.
Decision Making and Supervision
Make decisions and recommendations governed by general policy. Recommendations are reviewed for technical soundness or judgment but are generally accepted as technically accurate ;
Influence decisions on the technical development of operational concepts;
Manage development projects within the SOC; including collaboration with other operational staff;
Provide engineering guidance to SOC staff;
When in a shift environment; provide engineering guidance during the operations phase.
