Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Intermediate Noise and Vibration Engineer/Specialist (Building Acoustics)

What is the role?

As an Intermediate Noise and Vibration Engineer/Specialist – Building Acoustics at LEA, you will analyze, model, and evaluate noise and vibration in buildings and infrastructure projects. You will review architectural and mechanical designs for acoustic performance, perform field measurements, prepare technical reports, and recommend practical mitigation solutions. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage multiple projects, and ensure compliance with industry standards, Ontario regulations, and Tarion acoustic requirements, while contributing to high‑quality, client‑focused engineering solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Review architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings/shop drawings for acoustic integrity (e.g., partition terminations, penetrations sealing, vibration isolation details); provide detailed recommendations and working drawings as needed.
  • Prepare technical analyses using commercial software packages (e.g., Cadna/A, TNM, Sound Plan, STAMSON, INSUL) and proprietary in‑house tools for environmental noise/vibration predictions, impact assessments, mitigation design, and building acoustics evaluations (e.g., partition STC/ASTC/IIC modelling, HVAC/equipment noise propagation, vibration isolation).
  • Complete high‑quality technical reports with minimal supervision, including baseline assessments, compliance evaluations, mitigation recommendations, Acoustic Design Reviews, Noise Impact Studies (NIS), acoustic specification documents, Vibration Impact Studies, Construction Noise and Vibration Management Plans, and any reporting required to support environmental approvals/permitting, building code compliance, and Tarion warranty processes.
  • Communicate technical findings, potential impacts, and recommended mitigation measures (e.g., partition upgrades, silencer specifications, vibration isolators) clearly to internal teams, clients, regulatory agencies, builders, and stakeholders (e.g., via meetings, presentations, or public consultations).
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, mechanical/electrical engineers, and multidisciplinary teams throughout all phases of project delivery, from initial scoping and proposal development to detail design, construction, and warranty/commissioning.
  • Manage multiple active projects simultaneously, balancing priorities to meet schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Prepare high‑quality proposals for private clients (e.g., developers, architects) as well as responses to larger‑scale Requests for Proposal (RFP) and Expressions of Interest (EOI).
  • Stay current with industry standards, software advancements, regulatory changes (including Tarion updates), and best practices to ensure compliance and innovative solutions in building acoustics.
  • Conduct noise and vibration field measurements at industrial, residential, institutional, transportation, and construction sites, including setup, calibration, data collection, processing, interpretation, and specialized building acoustics testing (e.g., ASTC field testing on partitions per ASTM E336, background noise for NC criteria, mock‑up partition evaluations, and post‑construction commissioning to verify acoustic performance).
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including training, workshops, seminars, and involvement in professional associations, to maintain and enhance industry knowledge and skills.
  • Support additional assignments within the Transportation & Systems Division.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Engineering (Acoustical, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, or related field), Physics, Environmental Science or equivalent.
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario (or current registration/eligibility with PEO) upon completion of required experience.
  • Minimum of 3–6 years of relevant consulting experience in environmental noise/vibration and building acoustics assessments (e.g., residential, institutional, mixed‑use, shelter/transitional housing developments; transportation, industrial, or construction sectors).
  • Strong demonstrated expertise in building/architectural acoustics, including:
    • Experience in the development…
