Environmental Coordinator

Job Description  As an Environmental Coordinator on Pomerleau's Operational Support team, you will help project teams ensure environmental and contractual compliance on our projects. You will support large-scale building, civil engineering, and infrastructure projects ranging from $1.5 million to over $1 billion, providing advice, support, and assistance to ensure legislative compliance.
Responsibilities   Report to the Project Environmental Manager, Project Manager, and/or Regional Environmental Manager depending on project assignment.
Participate in the development, update, and implementation of project‑specific environmental management plans and permit applications, and assist in construction planning by ensuring environmental requirements are integrated into execution documents.
Deliver environmental awareness training to project personnel, including subcontractors.
Participate in toolbox talks, field kickoff meetings, and construction coordination meetings.
Monitor construction activities for environmental and regulatory compliance by documenting environmental observations, implementation of good practices, opportunities for improvement, instances of non‑compliance, and collecting evidence to support compliance.
Communicate with and support superintendents and managers with environmental compliance, including remediation of environmental deficiencies.
Execute sampling plans for soil and water in accordance with provincial and federal guidance documents, including collection of soil and water samples.
Collect and track environmental data, including water and soil quality and discharge/disposal volumes.
Respond to and participate in environmental emergencies, both planned and unplanned, that may impact receiving environments.
Generate routine environmental monitoring reports, environmental incident reports, and spill reports.
Qualifications   Completion of a post‑secondary program (certificate, diploma, undergraduate degree, etc.) in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Geology, or a similar field.
Experience in the environmental field, ideally in a construction, industrial, or tunneling project.
Working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation, guidelines, and recognized best management practices.
Experience in sampling and environmental monitoring.
