Jack Talk for Indigenous Youth Facilitator

About The Jack Talk for Indigenous Youth Facilitator Program:

• Open to all Indigenous youth ages 18-29 who are interested in joining a movement of Indigenous young people leading discussions on mental health and wellbeing through our Jack Talk for Indigenous Youth.
• Facilitators connect directly with their peers through live sharing circles led by and for Indigenous youth to build foundational mental health literacy, normalize mental health conversations and reduce stigma related to mental health and illness.
• Participants build foundational skills in group facilitation, public speaking and advocacy through comprehensive training on how to facilitate vital conversations about mental health with their peers in a safe and supportive way.
• This is a paid opportunity that compensates participants via honorarium for completing training and for preparing and facilitating the Jack Talk for Indigenous Youth.

The Jack Talk for Indigenous Youth puts community practice front and centre in educating about mental health struggle and healing from Indigenous perspectives. The program uses contact-based education and peer-to-peer outreach to connect Indigenous youth across Canada in conversations about mental health and healing.

A Jack Talk for Indigenous Youth is made up of two parts:

• a video portion that explains social determinants of mental health from Indigenous perspectives and features youth stories about navigating mental health struggle, experiences with stigma and the relationship between culture, community and mental health
• a live sharing circle led by an Indigenous Youth Facilitator who guides participants in exploring lessons and reflections, using the video portion as the spark for generating group discussion and connection.
