Randstad Education is hiring a dedicated Cover Teacher for primary schools in Gatwick and the surrounding areas of Surrey and West Sussex. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified teachers who enjoy working in different school settings while helping children achieve their learning goals. The role is suitable for experienced primary teachers with strong knowledge of the Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2) curriculum.
As a Cover Teacher, you will teach lessons, support pupils, maintain classroom standards, and ensure learning continues during staff absences. You may work on day‑to‑day, long‑term, or permanent cover assignments depending on school needs.
- Deliver engaging lessons for KS1 and KS2 pupils.
- Follow school policies and classroom procedures.
- Plan lessons with colleagues where required.
- Assess pupil progress throughout lessons.
- Keep accurate learning and attendance records.
- Mark completed work and provide useful feedback.
- Maintain a positive and safe classroom environment.
- Attend staff meetings and parent consultations when required.
- Support pupils with different learning abilities.
- Work professionally with school staff and leadership teams.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or PGCE.
- Previous teaching experience in a UK primary school.
- Strong knowledge of the KS1 and KS2 curriculum.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Passion for supporting children’s education.
- Ability to adapt quickly to different school environments.
- Two references from the past five years, including one safeguarding reference involving children.
- An up-to-date DBS on the Update Service is desirable.
- A full employment history covering the last ten years is preferred.
A daily rate of £125 is competitive for many primary supply teaching roles, although actual rates can vary depending on experience, qualifications, school type, and location. Teachers working in specialist or long‑term assignments may sometimes receive higher rates. Supply teaching also offers flexibility that many education professionals value.
