Job Title:
Airfreight Manager
Overview
Our client is looking for an experienced Airfreight Manager to lead their airfreight operations and drive excellence in freight management. This is a pivotal role overseeing end-to-end airfreight processes, optimising efficiency, managing customer accounts, and building long-term client relationships, all while ensuring compliance with international regulations. You'll coordinate with internal teams, external partners, and clients to deliver seamless airfreight solutions that support business objectives, helping to streamline operations, boost customer satisfaction, and drive growth in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of airfreight forwarding, including booking, documentation, customs clearance, and transportation coordination
- Develop and implement plans to optimise workflows and reduce transit times while maintaining high service standards
- Work closely with airlines, ground handling agents, and customs authorities to ensure smooth cargo movement
- Use transportation management systems (TMS) and in-house platforms to track shipments, update records, and generate reports
- Negotiate rates, contracts, and service agreements with airlines and freight partners to secure cost-effective solutions
- Maintain compliance with international trade laws, IATA regulations, and other relevant standards
- Support lead generation by leveraging CRM systems and building external relationships for client engagement and B2B sales
- Oversee the integration of airfreight processes within the wider supply chain, ensuring alignment with the business's goals
Skills
- Strong experience with transportation management systems (TMS), EDI, and freight tracking
- Solid understanding of airfreight operations, logistics strategy, and B2B sales
- Proven negotiation skills with airlines and freight partners
- Sound knowledge of international shipping regulations and customs compliance
- Familiarity with CRM software for lead generation and accurate record keeping
- Excellent communication skills, able to coordinate across teams and with external partners
- Ability to analyse logistics data to spot opportunities for improvement and cost savings
Desirable
- Experience with in customs-related logistics
- Understanding of UK customs procedures and transit movements
- Knowledge of GVMS and border processes
- Experience with freight management systems
