Deputy CFO – Government Financial Operations
Sterling Engineering is partnering with a large, government-funded organization to hire a Deputy Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will lead a transformation of the finance and accounting function. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to modernize financial operations, drive strategic initiatives, and ensure compliance with federal regulations, including the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
Base pay range$/yr - $/yr
Key Responsibilities- Lead all financial operations, ensuring compliance with FAR, federal guidelines, and other regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures to support long-term organizational health.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes aligned with strategic goals.
- Present timely and accurate financial reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Manage cash flow, investments, and financial risk; advise executive leadership on financial decisions.
- Supervise and mentor finance and accounting teams, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
- Oversee internal and external audit processes, ensuring robust financial controls are in place.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency.
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, including auditors, regulatory agencies, and financial institutions.
- Serve as the organization’s primary financial advisor, supporting strategic planning and decision-making.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- CPA or CFA designation strongly preferred.
- Proven experience in government, public sector, or university financial management.
- Deep understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and federal compliance standards.
- Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.
- Experience managing large teams and complex financial operations.
