Northwestern Medicine is dedicated to improving patient care and building a positive workplace. As a Clinical Lab Assistant at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, you will play a vital role in supporting laboratory operations and ensuring accurate, timely patient results.
Job DetailsFull‑time, 36 hours per week.
Location:
Delnor Hospital, Geneva.
Mandatory schedule:
Monday‑Friday 7 a.m.‑3:30 p.m. and every other weekend 5 a.m.‑1:30 p.m.
- Collaborate with main lab staff, ancillary departments,, nurses and providers to ensure excellent patient care.
- Receive specimens into the laboratory information system and register specimen drop‑offs (e.g., home health) in LIS.
- Input and retrieve lab results in the laboratory or hospital computer system.
- Distribute specimens to the appropriate testing area.
- Identify and solve problems using available resources with the assistance of supervisors, managers, pathologists, and coworkers.
- Accurately perform waived testing under CLS direction as applicable.
- Ensure appropriate sample type, container, and volume for testing.
- Communicate specimen rejections, critical/notifiable results to clinical personnel and complete required documentation.
- May review/record refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records, reporting concerns through the Corrective Action Log.
- Follow up on outstanding orders, including time‑sensitive draws/charges.
- Pull AP slides for second‑opinion requests and log material back into Epic when returned.
- Answer phone calls to the laboratory and triage appropriately.
- Coordinate courier pickups as needed.
- May perform phlebotomy and other specimen collection per age‑related standards as required.
- Required: High School Diploma.
- Preferred: 1 year of experience in a general lab, specimen processing, or phlebotomy department.
