Clinical Lab Assistant – Full-time Days

Position:
Clinical Lab Assistant – Full-time Days (36 hours per week)
Hours:
Monday through Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, every other weekend 5:00 am – 1:30 pm.
Salary range: $19.81 – $26.74 per hour.
Job OverviewLocation:
Delnor Hospital, Geneva. The role supports laboratory operations, specimen handling, and patient care coordination across the hospital.
- Collaborate with the main lab staff, ancillary departments, nurses and providers to ensure excellent patient care.
- Receive specimens into the laboratory information system.
- Input and retrieve lab results in the laboratory or hospital computer system.
- Register specimen drop-offs (e.g., Home health) in LIS, ensuring accurate data entry.
- Distribute specimens to the appropriate testing area.
- Identify and solve problems utilizing appropriate resources, with assistance from supervisors, managers, pathologists or coworkers when necessary.
- Accurately perform waived testing under the direction of CLS as applicable.
- Ensure appropriate sample type is received for testing ordered, including proper container and volume.
- Communicate specimen rejections, critical/notifiable results to appropriate clinical personnel and complete required documentation.
- May review/record refrigerator temperature(s) and QC/QA records; concerns recorded in the Corrective Action Log and reported to maintenance for repair.
- Adhere to lab procedures, following up on outstanding orders including time‑sensitive draws/charges.
- Pull AP slides for second‑opinion requests and log material back into Epic when returned.
- Answer phone calls to the laboratory and triage appropriately.
- Coordinate courier pickups as needed.
- May perform phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age‑related standards as required.
Required:
- High School Diploma.
Preferred:
- 1 year of experience in a general lab, specimen processing or phlebotomy department.
