Pet Stylist in Training is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and best-in-class salon services. This position will receive training and guidance from our Professional Styling teams, learning proper grooming techniques. This role also upholds the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. It shares responsibility for store cleanliness, recommending solutions for pet parents, and pet safety standards.

The Pet Stylist in Training role is obtained once the associate has successfully completed the Pet Smart Grooming Academy.

• Under supervision, performs full menu of bath, brush and grooming services and standalone services (e.g., nail trims, teeth brushing, sanitary services) in accordance with Pet Smart’s bathing standards and procedures.
• Develops and displays safe technical skills meeting or exceeding the company’s minimum expectations.
• Recommends additional health and wellness solutions with pet parents based on the pet’s needs.
• Ensures a positive pet parent experience in person, over the phone, and at the sales register.
• Greets pet parents, answers questions, and assists with making salon reservations.
• Conducts salon appointment reminder calls, maintains client records, and consults with pet parents on services offered.
• Performs check-in and check-out procedures for grooming appointments, including applicable paperwork and rebooking.
• Promotes salon sales opportunities to help achieve sales targets and productivity, and supports relevant salon metrics.
• Recommends, informs, and sells merchandise and services.
• Maintains cleanliness, sanitation and humane conditions for all pets in the grooming area; performs daily maintenance and end-of-day cleaning per the maintenance checklist.
• Takes immediate action when a sick or injured pet is identified in the store and coordinates transport to the vet as needed.
• Assists in other departments as required; other duties may be assigned.

• Follows all Company Policies and Procedures.

• Successful completion of Pet Smart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification program.
• Prior grooming experience preferred; may be asked to complete a technical exam.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
• Flexibility in schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and safety measures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Stand, walk, climb stairs, and use hands to handle, feel, hold, write, etc. May reach with hands and arms; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch as needed; depth perception; reasonable accommodations available.
• May lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with assistance.
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments with pet hair, moderate noise level, and live animals; appropriate safety protocols observed.
