Layout and Graphic Designer

Organizational context:
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority within the UN system. Its Industry and Economy Division promotes sustainable consumption and production, efficient resource use, and sound chemical management. The Chemicals Science and Policy Unit (CSPU) supports informed decision-making on chemicals and waste, executing projects on persistent organic pollutants and mercury. This role supports the CSPU and the Textiles Unit.

Job purpose:

This role is to provide graphic design and layout services for various UNEP publications and communication materials. The purpose is to visually communicate key messages and results from UNEP's activities, particularly concerning hazardous chemicals, mercury waste management, and the textile industry's transition to sustainability. The consultant will create compelling infographics, design report layouts, and develop communication assets that enhance understanding and engagement with UNEP's environmental initiatives, contributing to informed decision-making and policy support.

Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for the complete layout and graphic design of various reports and publications, including the State of Science Technical Report, Synthesis Report on EDCs, and a practical guide for mercury waste management. This includes developing original infographics and communication assets, designing presentations, summary documents, and case studies. The role also involves updating communication and branding guidelines for relevant programmes.

All deliverables must be provided in both PDF and adaptable raw file formats, suitable for social media use, ensuring effective communication of UNEP's key messages and results.

Education:

An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in graphic design or a related field is required. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. Fluency in English is essential for this role.

Work experience:

A minimum of 7 years of relevant professional work experience in graphic design and layout is required. Experience working with UN agencies or on Minamata Convention issues is advantageous. Experience in chemicals and waste management topics is desirable.
