The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, Switzerland, seeks an Audio-Visual Editing and Digital Media Intern for a six-month duration. This internship supports the OHCHR's audiovisual digitization and preservation projects, contributing to the management of multimedia records and ensuring their long-term accessibility and archival integrity.
Job purpose:
The Audio-Visual Editing and Digital Media Intern will provide crucial support to the OHCHR's audiovisual digitization and preservation initiatives. The role involves organizing, editing, and managing video and audio materials, creating accessibility features like subtitles and transcripts, and ensuring the quality and compliance of edited content. This position contributes to the effective archiving and long-term preservation of valuable multimedia records, enhancing their usability for advocacy and historical purposes.
The intern will also assist in maintaining digital asset management systems and collaborate with relevant teams to support ongoing audiovisual projects and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Support audiovisual digitization and preservation projects, including video, audio, photographic, and multimedia records. Organize, prepare, and manage audiovisual materials for processing, editing, archiving, and preservation. Perform basic to intermediate video editing (trimming, sequencing, captioning, formatting, export) and audio editing (synchronization, sound-level adjustments, basic restoration). Create subtitles, captions, transcripts, and accessibility materials. Conduct quality control reviews of edited audiovisual content for technical compliance and quality.
Organize and maintain digital media assets using established folder structures, naming conventions, and metadata practices. Assist in preparing audiovisual records for long-term digital preservation and archival storage. Track project progress, maintain editing logs, and prepare documentation and reports. Collaborate with records management, communications, and information management teams on audiovisual initiatives. Participate in meetings, take notes, and draft summary reports.
Education:
Must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or higher) or be in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. Pursuing or completed a degree in Information Technology/Computer Science, Communications, Film/Media Studies, Business Administration, Management, or related fields. Fluency in spoken and written English is required; knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Work experience:
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to audio-visual production, archives, records management, digital preservation, or information governance is necessary. Familiarity with standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and digital records management systems is expected.
Skills:
Video editing (Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or similar). Audio editing (Adobe Audition, Audacity, or similar). Digital media asset management. Understanding of audiovisual production and editing principles. Knowledge of digital preservation and archival practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to learn new software and systems.
