The Faculty of Science hosts two prestigious National Centres of Competence in Research (NCCR) funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation —

What Are the Excellence Master Fellowships?The Excellence Master Fellowships are competitive merit‑based awards established by the Faculty of Science with the support of external partners. They are open to exceptional students worldwide who wish to enroll in a Master of Science program offered by the Faculty.
Stipend value:
- CHF 10,000 to CHF 15,000 per year
- No teaching or assistantship duties required
The fellowship is awarded for one year initially and is renewable for the full duration of the Master’s program (three or four semesters), provided the student maintains strong academic performance after the first semester. This financial support significantly reduces the cost of studying in Switzerland and allows recipients to fully engage in their studies and research.
Programs Covered by the FellowshipThe fellowship applies to all Master of Science programs offered by the Faculty of Science. These programs are taught entirely in English or in a combination of English and French
, making them accessible to international students from diverse backgrounds.

Who Can Apply?The Excellence Master Fellowship is open to top‑performing students from any country

- You have completed or are completing a Bachelor’s degree with excellent academic results

. - You meet the admission requirements of the Master’s program you wish to pursue.
- You have not already started a Master’s program at the Faculty of Science, University of Geneva.
Importantly,
current UNIGE students and external applicants are both eligible, provided they follow the correct enrollment procedure.
Before your fellowship application can be considered, you must begin the Master’s enrollment process through the University of Geneva Admissions Office.
- If you are already a UNIGE student: submit a scan of your UNIGE student card.
- If you are not yet a UNIGE student: submit the confirmation email titled "UNIGE-Candidature: Dépôt de votre dossier" received after registering for the Master’s program.
Failure to complete this step will automatically disqualify your fellowship application.
