The Deputy Head of Boarding is part of the Boarding Management team. The mission of the role is to foster a student centered Boarding environment giving every student the opportunity to shine. As one of two Deputy Heads of Boarding, you share the management of a community of around 60 staff members and 300 boarders. You act as the link between students, parents, academic side of the school and lead the way in creating and maintaining a home family environment in which students feel secure and well supported.
The position is available as soon as possible.
You will liaise daily with Heads of Houses, House Parents, academic leaders, teachers, pastoral care teams, the medical centre, finance, housekeeping, and the school leadership team. You will report to the Director of Boarding.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Relating to leadership- Actively promoting the ethos of RISE.
- Promoting an environment of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Providing leadership to benchmark individual student achievement, using a data-driven approach.
- Ensuring that students thrive in their own personal development.
- Actively involved in staff recruitment.
- Promoting the use of Nord Anglia University to enhance professional development.
- Creating a positive team atmosphere.
- Promoting a holistic approach to enhance the quality of student outcomes and encouraging student development.
- Encouraging school spirit and community involvement.
- Actively engaging with the Admissions and Marketing in promoting CDL.
- Directing Heads of Houses with their responsibility areas, and their role as mentors.
- Leading the Performance Evaluations for members of the team
- Providing an effective induction programme to staff.
- Providing staff with a weekly bulletin.
- Co-Chairing weekly meetings to staff.
- Providing boarding staff with the tools to guide student engagement follow-up.
- Engaging in a whole-school approach.
- Ensuring a comprehensive and effective student induction programme.
- Through student voice meetings designing an attractive and engaging activity programme.
- Providing an engaging evening talks programme for students to learn from.
- Providing additional support to students who need it.
- Fostering opportunities for students to have their voice in the community.
- Cultivating positive relations with parents.
- Communicating with parents on individual success, support and discipline issues.
- Guiding parents with individual student development.
- Promoting the Boarding Experience to existing and prospective parents.
- Maintaining notes on student profiles.
- Contributing to the House Reviews.
- Identifying talent and passions in new students and promoting opportunities for these to grow.
- Integrating the REACH Boarding Software into common use.
- Producing House reports focusing on Discipline and Lateness.
- Ensuring consistency in punishments across Houses.
- Contributing to the House Reviews.
- Co-running the Programme of Monthly Boarding Assemblies.
- Ensuring that student opportunities for engagement are promoted in assemblies.
- Ensuring that Music is promoted in assemblies.
- Celebrating success through awards evenings.
- Ensuring the team spirit in a House.
- Running the house Competition and making it live.
- Helping with allocation of students to Houses.
- Helping with House Reviews.
- Ensuring Wellbeing aspects of NMS are implemented.
- Ensuring the Inter House Competition operates.
- Managing the weekend activities programme.
- Ensuring a balance of activities, sport, and culture.
- Designing the trips during the holidays.
- Ensuring student take-up is good.
- Pushing overlap and integration of Day and Boarding Student
Extensive Boarding experience in a demanding international context focused on Excellence. You are used to working in a fast-paced and flexible environment. With robust organisational skills marked by a methodical and structured approach, you excel in efficiently managing tasks. Your interpersonal abilities are a cornerstone, characterised by a keen aptitude for listening, openness, empathy, and attentiveness. Demonstrating strong leadership within a team, you are adept at coaching and fostering development among team members.
Your problem-solving approach is dynamic, and you continuously seek solutions. You are comfortable in both analytical and creative works.
Resilience is ingrained in your behaviour, complemented by a well-balanced sense of humour!
Required Preferred QualificationUniversity degree
A previous experience in teaching
ExperienceA previous experience in pastoral care
A previous managerial experience of at least 5 to 10 years
A previous experience of taking a school through OFSTED or Accreditation inspection.
Prior KnowledgeGood knowledge of French
