CERN has an opening for a Project Graduate in the Education section in the Education Communications and Outreach (ECO) group in the Stakeholders Relations (SR) sector. The Education section runs a broad portfolio of programmes for teachers and school students and conducts Physics Education Research to support evidence‑informed programme design and evaluation.

This graduate position focuses on a project to broaden access to CERNs teacher education programmes and resources. The project responds to the strategic need to scale the reach, accessibility and sustainability of CERNs teacher programmes by redesigning delivery formats and educational resources to engage new audiences, including educators unable to participate onsite and teachers at earlier educational levels such as primary education.

You will work closely with and under the guidance of the Teacher Programmes Manager to support the development and delivery of CERNs teacher programmes.

Your responsibilities:
  • Expand programme reach to new educator audiences, including primary school educators, by designing, piloting and evaluating scalable training models across online, hybrid and onsite formats.
  • Explore alignment between CERN‑related content and school curricula and develop, pilot and evaluate modular classroom‑ready teaching materials to extend programme impact beyond live delivery.
  • Coordinate communication and project logistics with participating teachers and programme contributors and relevant stakeholders.
  • Facilitate selected sessions during teacher programmes such as workshops, guided visits or discussion activities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Teacher Programmes Manager and the wider Education Communications and Outreach teams to support the ongoing development and future direction of teacher education activities.
  • Provide support for special events and outreach activities involving teachers and schools in the local area and further afield.
Your profile:
  • Experience in science education.
  • Experience developing teaching resources.
  • Experience communicating scientific concepts clearly and engagingly to diverse audiences, including teachers.
  • Experience with particle physics education is an asset.
Skills:
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, schedule and coordinate activities or events.
  • Fast learner able to quickly absorb new scientific concepts and pedagogical approaches.
  • Ability and motivation to work effectively in a team within a large international organisation and to contribute positively to a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Spoken and written English or French with a commitment to learn the other language; additional languages are an asset.
Eligibility criteria:
  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in science education, STEM or other related field and have either:
    • a Masters degree with 2 to 6 years of post‑graduation professional experience; or
    • a PhD with no more than 3 years of post‑graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Additional Information:
  • Contract duration: 12 months with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
  • Working hours:

    40 hours per week.
  • Job flexibility:
    Fully onsite.
