Wilson Reading Specialist to provide targeted reading instruction to students with dyslexia and other reading-based learning disabilities. The ideal candidate needs to be Wilson-certified and passionate about structured literacy instruction based on the Orton‑Gillingham approach. This specialist will deliver intensive reading interventions using the Wilson Reading System® and support the literacy development of struggling readers across grade levels. This position will be dependent on the availability of state funds.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide individualized and small-group reading instruction using the Wilson Reading System (WRS)
- Assess students to determine eligibility for the Wilson program and track progress using formal and informal measures
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with WRS principles and student IEP goals (if applicable)
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, and support staff to coordinate reading intervention strategies
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress and instructional plans
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student growth and recommendations
- Attend professional development and stay current with research-based reading interventions
- Support school-wide literacy initiatives and contribute to a culture of reading success
Required:
- Current teaching certification (general or special education)
- Certified in the Wilson Reading System® (Level I Certification required; Level II preferred)
- At least 2 years of teaching experience
- Experience working with students with dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities
- Knowledge of other structured literacy programs and assessments (e.g., DIBELS, LETRS)
- Strong understanding of the science of reading and structured literacy
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to instruction
- Data-driven decision making and instructional planning
- This role may involve working in a classroom, resource room, or one-on-one settings.
