SUMMARY:
The Geneva English School (GES) is a high-quality, boutique international school in Switzerland, operating across two campuses (Genthod for Primary and Versoix for Secondary) with a total of approximately 330 students from over 60 nationalities. The school follows the English National Curriculum, culminating in IGCSEs and A Levels, and maintains a "small school" feel with typical class sizes of 12, focusing on a holistic education where music is central to daily life.
The Head of Secondary School Music at GES is responsible for delivering high-quality music education that inspires a diverse, international student body. With music deeply embedded in the school culture—from "House singing" competitions to whole-school assemblies—you will nurture students' creative and technical skills. This role involves teaching core music lessons across Secondary (ages 11–18) levels.
- Curriculum Delivery:
Plan and deliver engaging lessons following the English National Curriculum, adapting it for an international context. - Secondary Academic Support:
For older students, support the delivery of IGCSE and A Level Music, focusing on performance, composition, and perceptive analysis. - Performance & Events:
Organise and lead school concerts, talent shows, and seasonal musical events that showcase the talents of the GES community. - Ensemble Leadership:
Direct and grow co-curricular musical groups, such as the school choir, orchestra, or smaller ensembles, often held during lunchtimes or after school. - Collaboration:
Work alongside a team of Visiting Music Teachers (VMTs) who provide individual instrumental tuition to over 370 students weekly across the wider community.
- A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE preferred) and relevant academic degree in Music or a related field.
- Experience teaching Music across Secondary levels.
- Experience with in a British curriculum and successfully preparing students for external music examinations (GCSE, A-Level).
- Strong instrumental and/or vocal expertise.
- Experience preparing students for performances.
- A passion for music education and holistic student development.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to school life beyond the classroom.
- A clear commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.
- Fluency in English is the primary requirement; however, a working knowledge of French is a significant advantage given the school’s immersive French setting in Switzerland.
- Due to Swiss regulations, candidates typically need to be Swiss citizens, EU/EFTA passport holders, or hold a valid Swiss work permit.
