Position Description
PhD Position in Theoretical Quantum Physics — University of Geneva
Applications are invited for a four-year PhD position in theoretical quantum physics at the University of Geneva, jointly supervised by Julian Sonner and Romain Vasseur.
The position is funded by the Foundation for the University of Geneva through the Geneva Quantum Center (GQC), with an expected start date of September 1, 2027. The project will explore connections between measurement-induced phenomena, quantum chaos, and holography, broadly construed. Possible directions include open and monitored quantum dynamics, the emergence of quantum chaos and pseudorandomness, and connections between these phenomena and ideas from holography and quantum gravity.
The successful candidate will join the vibrant theoretical physics and quantum information community in Geneva and will interact closely with both research groups and the broader Geneva Quantum Center. Candidates should have, or be close to completing, a Master’s degree in physics or a related field, with a strong background in theoretical physics. Experience in quantum many-body physics, quantum information, statistical mechanics, quantum chaos, or holography is desirable but not required.
Applications should include a CV, academic transcripts, a brief motivation/research statement, and the names and contact information of two references.
