Total Energies has developed strong expertise across oil and biofuels, natural gas, electricity and low-carbon energies. Our trading activities are conducted from our main international hubs, including Geneva, Paris, Houston and Singapore.
Total Energies Gas & Power (TGP) is the trading arm of Total Energies for gas, LNG, power and low-carbon energies. Operating in highly dynamic and volatile markets, TGP plays a key role in supporting the Group's ambitions through the optimisation and management of complex energy portfolios.
Based within our Gas, Power & Emissions (GPE) Operations team, you will support the management of Total Energies' physical gas and power portfolios across Europe.
The team operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring the safe and efficient management of physical positions across European pipeline and transmission networks. The position is therefore organised on a shift basis, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
Working in a fast-paced trading environment, you will interact closely with Gas, Power and LNG Trading Desks, Group affiliates, upstream and downstream teams, network operators and external counter parties.
As a GPE Shift Operator, you will directly support the Gas and Power Trading Desks and contribute to the operational and commercial management of the Group's physical portfolio.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Manage physical gas and power positions across UK and Continental European markets.
- Maintain continuous communication with Gas, Power and LNG Trading Desks, Group affiliates, offshore field operators, procurement teams and external counter parties.
- Accurately and promptly nominate physical positions to transporters, transmission system operators and other relevant market participants using dedicated systems.
- Monitor operational data flows together with intraday and day-ahead market movements.
- Manage and balance the portfolio by responding to changes in supply and demand and instructions from the relevant trading and procurement desks.
- Commercially optimise physical positions outside standard office hours, including through electronic energy exchanges and OTC transactions, under the direction of the relevant Trading Desks.
- Manage upstream gas portfolios and portfolios for entities for which Total Energies acts as shipping agent, including the preparation of balancing reports.
- Ensure that entry and exit capacity requirements are appropriately managed.
- Liaise with counter parties regarding retrospective physical gas transactions where required.
- Review allocation data against nominated quantities, identify discrepancies and coordinate their resolution.
- Contribute proactively to business developments and identify opportunities to improve operational and commercial performance.
- Ensure that all activities comply with applicable pipeline and grid operator rules, market regulations, industry codes and internal procedures.
- Contribute to minimising financial penalties and operational exposure across the markets in which the team operates.
You will operate across major UK and European trading hubs, interconnectors, storage facilities, LNG terminals, offshore fields, power plants and refineries.
The role provides significant exposure to energy trading activities and acts as a key interface between Trading, Operations, Procurement, Back Office, Finance and Legal teams.
- You hold a university degree, ideally in Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Science or another relevant quantitative discipline.
- You have at least 1 year of relevant industry experience, ideally within gas and/or power operations, energy trading, scheduling, dispatching or a comparable position.
- You have strong numerical and analytical skills and are comfortable working with large volumes of data.
- You are fluent in English. Additional European languages would be an advantage.
- You are resilient and able to make accurate decisions quickly and confidently in a fast-moving environment.
- You are flexible and comfortable working within a 24/7 shift organisation, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
- You enjoy working collaboratively and communicating with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
