Position: Mechanical Design Engineer (EN-HE-PO-2026-40-GRAE)
Location: Genf

Job Description

As the Mechanical Design Engineer, you will coordinate transport and handling aspects of the CNGS dismantling and Isolde Beam Dump projects. You will also participate in the development of both projects and oversee the design of any installation tooling and machines, and follow up the dismantling and installation phase with the technicians on the field.

Your Responsibilities
  • 3D modelling of environment and operations in Catia.
  • Definition and design of handling tools, follow up of construction and delivery.
  • Follow up of the project: planning, resources, implementation of the proposed tooling and methods with the handling teams.
Your Profile
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (CATIA, Solid Works, Inventor, or equivalent).
  • Experience with mechanical calculations with Ansys (or other Finite Elements Methods).
Skills
  • Deep understanding of the strain/stress propagation in metallic structures.
  • Ability to prepare mechanical calculation notes with formulas to be submitted to safety stakeholders.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
Eligibility Criteria
  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the Final date to receive applications, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
Additional Information

Job closing date: 01.03.2026 at 23:59 CET.
Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours:

40 hours per week

This position involves:
Work in Radiation Areas.
Interventions in underground installations.
A valid driving licence.
Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organisation.
Exposure to ionising radiation and classified as category

A.
Exposure to risk of falling from heights during scaffolding assembly and dismantling operations.
