Electromechanical Technician (EP-ATL-SO--LD)

Contract

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter — fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.

Introduction

As a versatile electromechanical technician with experience in installing and maintaining a wide range of equipment, you will play a key role in the infrastructure upgrade and implementation of the ATLAS upgrade project (2026–2030). As part of the ATLAS Technical Coordination team, you will liaise with detector teams, contribute to the decommissioning of existing equipment, and participate in the installation and commissioning of the new rack infrastructure, while supporting detector teams in their installation work.

Functions
  • Participate in the decommissioning of existing electronics racks.
  • Contribute to the installation of new racks in the underground service caverns, including rack cooling and power distribution systems as well as ventilation turbines, to meet the future needs of the ATLAS detector systems.

  • Contribute to the assembly, installation, and maintenance of rack ventilation turbines.
  • Support the upgrade and maintenance of the PLC-based Detector Safety System (DSS) hardware.
  • Participate in cable routing and in the installation of electromechanical equipment for ATLAS detector infrastructure.
  • Support the maintenance of common environmental control and monitoring devices (e.g., webcams, temperature, and humidity sensors, etc.).
  • Support the operation, maintenance and refurbishment of the ATLAS surface facilities.
  • Coordinate, in collaboration with the group responsible for Access & Alarms, the maintenance of the sniffer system used to monitor the concentration of smoke or flammable gas.
  • Be part of the Detector Safety System (DSS) on‑call team.
