As a Project Engineer on Building Projects within the Site and Civil Engineering Department (Project Portfolio Management Group), you will contribute to industrial and tertiary building projects. , Working under the supervision of a CERN Project Manager, you will coordinate users, technical stakeholders, design consultants and contractors to meet technical, safety, schedule, quality and budget objectives.

Key Tasks
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, requirements definition and preliminary design for new build, refurbishment and infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate design services delivered by architects and engineering consultants, ensuring integration of architectural, structural, civil works, building services and specialist technical equipment.
  • Engage with users and internal technical stakeholders to define needs, manage interfaces and present coordinated design solutions.
  • Contribute to the preparation of consultancy and construction tender documents, bid evaluations and the appointment of designers and contractors.
  • Follow up construction works on site, checking compliance with contractual drawings, technical specifications, quality requirements and applicable safety measures.
  • Monitor progress, quantities, costs, risks and schedules; contribute to payment certification, change management and project reporting.
  • Coordinate testing, commissioning, taking-over and handover activities, and follow up defects and outstanding works through to closure.
Candidate Profile
  • An interest in both industrial and tertiary buildings, from design through construction and handover.
  • An understanding of multidisciplinary building design and the interfaces between civil works, structures, architecture, MEP services and technical equipment.
  • A structured, proactive and pragmatic approach, with the ability to manage priorities and develop under the guidance of experienced project managers.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate in an international and multidisciplinary environment.
  • Your studies focused on Civil Engineering.
Skills
  • Proficiency in the MS Office suite including MS project.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Flexible and multi-tasking.
  • Excellent communication skills, an open minded, diplomatic approach and good negotiation skills.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language
Eligibility criteria
  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Civil Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Additional Information

Job closing date:
06.09.2026 at 23:59 CEST.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours:

40 hours per week

Job flexibility:
Fully Onsite

Target start date: 01-January-2027

This position involves:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Stand-by duty, when required by the needs of the Organization.
  • Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.
