Mechanical Commissioning Engineer | Global Data Centre Capital Programme | Independent Contracting Engagement
We are supporting a global technology leader on one of the most ambitious capital programmes currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland.
We are looking for a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to join this programme on the owner's side — someone who has built a solid foundation in mechanical systems commissioning and is ready to take ownership of technical delivery in a high-value, fast-moving environment where the detail matters and the standards are uncompromising.
What you will be doingMechanical Commissioning Planning
Develop and maintain the mechanical commissioning programme — producing and reviewing method statements, test scripts, and pre-commissioning checklists across HVAC, cooling, plumbing, and associated mechanical systems. Ensure all commissioning activities are properly sequenced and resourced ahead of execution.
Execute functional and performance testing across critical mechanical building services — including chilled water systems, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, computer room air handling units (CRAHUs), pumping systems, and pressurisation equipment. Verify that installed systems perform in accordance with design specifications and owner requirements before handover.
Integrated Systems Testing (IST)Coordinate and participate in integrated systems testing from a mechanical perspective — validating how cooling and mechanical systems interact with electrical and BMS infrastructure under normal operation, partial load, and failover conditions. Identify and document performance gaps and ensure corrective actions are closed out prior to operational acceptance.
Factory & Site Acceptance TestingWitness and sign off on factory acceptance tests (FAT) with mechanical equipment vendors and lead site acceptance tests (SAT) on installation. Maintain detailed test records and ensure non-conformances are tracked and resolved.
Punch List & Defect ManagementOwn the mechanical punch list process from initial walk-down through to close-out — categorising deficiencies, assigning responsibility, tracking resolution, and maintaining an accurate and auditable record of mechanical system readiness at all times.
Compile and review the full mechanical commissioning documentation package — including test reports, as-tested records, O&M submissions, and certificates of completion — ensuring the handover dossier meets client and regulatory standards.
What we are looking for- 7–10 years of hands-on mechanical commissioning experience within data centre, mission-critical, or large-scale MEP environments
- Direct experience executing and witnessing FAT/SAT and participating in IST programmes for critical mechanical infrastructure — ownership, not observation
- Strong technical knowledge across chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH, cooling towers, pressurisation, HVAC, and associated mechanical plant
- Methodical approach to documentation — test scripts, punch lists, non-conformance reports, and handover packages
- Tier III/IV data centre experience is a strong advantage
- Able to work effectively across contractor, vendor, and client interfaces without losing pace or rigour
