About the Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering, Geneva, Switzerland

The Wyss Center is an independent not-for-profit translational R&D organization focused on advancing disruptive neurotechnologies to transform the lives of people with neurological and mental health disorders. The Center pursues transformational technologies in artificial intelligence, bio- and neuroengineering to restore essential neural functions and deliver precision therapeutics for people with debilitating neurological and mental health disorders.

Based at Campus Biotech in Geneva, Switzerland, the Wyss Center partners with faculty, clinicians and industry, in Switzerland and internationally, to drive innovation and maximize clinical impact. The Wyss Center was established by a generous donation from the Swiss entrepreneur and philanthropist Hansjörg Wyss in 2014.

About the NeuroGI Program

NeuroGI is a Wyss Center research program exploring the connection between gut and brain health. Disorders of gut-brain interaction, such as irritable bowel syndrome, affect a large share of the population. NeuroGI combines neuroscience, imaging, and engineering to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic solutions. The program spans from early feasibility to first prototypes for human use, aiming to improve management of gut-brain disorders.

About

the Position

The Electrical Engineer will play a central role in the development of a first-generation medical device platform for the measurement of gastrointestinal electrical activity from within the body. The role will focus on the design, integration, testing and verification of low-power electronic subsystems for biosignal acquisition, motion sensing, local data storage, wireless communication and power management.

The ideal candidate is an experienced electrical or electronic systems engineer with a strong background in miniaturized, battery-powered medical devices, implantable or ingestible sensing systems, wearable biosignal monitoring, electrophysiology instrumentation or ultra-low-power connected health technologies. They combine hands-on hardware development expertise with systems-level thinking, rigorous documentation practices and the ability to translate designs from research to a regulated medical device development environment.

Key

responsibilities

In his/her position, the Electrical Engineer will have a broad set of responsibilities which includes:

  • Design and develop electronic subsystems for the NeuroGI platform.
  • Define and refine the system-level electrical architecture for gastrointestinal electrical activity monitoring, including ultra-low-power embedded hardware architectures and wireless communication solutions.
  • Develop analog front-end electronics for low-amplitude biopotential acquisition from mucosal electrodes, including signal conditioning, filtering, amplification, analog-to-digital conversion, buffering and time stamping.
  • Collaborate closely with firmware and software engineers throughout design, prototyping and verification, and develop bring-up and test firmware to configure and validate electronic subsystems during hardware verification.
  • Design, build and document test fixtures and experimental setups for electronic characterization.
  • Conduct debugging, root-cause analysis and design improvements during prototype development, preclinical testing and design verification.
  • Contribute to hardware requirements, risk analysis, verification plans, test protocols, test reports, design reviews and traceability documentation under the Wyss Center quality management system.
  • Support components and supplier selection, design for manufacturability, design transfer and preparation of technical documentation for future regulatory submissions.
