Employment Type: 80% FTE, fixed-term contract of 1 year with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs.

Five billion people lack access to safe, timely, and affordable surgical care. Conditions such as cancer, maternal complications, and traumatic injuries—many preventable through surgery—cause more deaths and disability than HIV, malaria, and TB combined, yet remain a neglected global health crisis.

Strong surgical systems are essential to resilient health systems, universal health coverage, and the Sustainable Development Goals. Investing in surgical care saves lives, strengthens economies, and prevents millions from falling into poverty. Without urgent action, the cost of inadequate surgical care—in human lives, productivity, and suffering—will be staggering, costing low- and middle-income countries trillions in lost productivity and pushing millions further into poverty.

The Global Surgery Foundation (GSF) is the leading organization dedicated to building surgical care systems worldwide. Launched in 2020 at the World Economic Forum with partners including the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, Harvard Medical School, and Smile Train, GSF works to help countries scale up access to safe, affordable surgical care, particularly in low- and middle-income settings.

GSF’s flagship initiatives include SURGfund, which mobilises financial resources to strengthen surgical systems, and SURGhub, the award-winning global learning platform providing high-quality surgical education to healthcare workers in low-resource settings.

SURGhub hosts training from leading global health and surgical institutions, enabling learners and professionals to access, engage with, and apply best practices in surgical care.

As SURGhub Project Associate you will help take this award-winning global learning platform to the next level - expanding its reach, deepening its impact, and shaping the future of surgical training worldwide. You will play a pivotal role in driving the smooth operation and strategic growth of SURGhub across its four core workflows — Platform, Partners, Learners, and Growth.

You will coordinate activities that ensure innovation, quality, and impact at every stage — from implementing platform updates and coordinating new partner engagement to supporting learners and helping advance growth initiatives. This role demands a unique blend of project coordination skills, partner engagement, and technical coordination. You’ll work closely with the SURGhub Manager, the Global Surgery Foundation team, and leading institutions worldwide to expand access to world-class surgical training, enhance user experiences, and amplify the platform’s reach and influence.

• Manage the SURGhub platform (Learn Worlds) to ensure smooth operation, accurate content, and constant improvement.
• Make updates and changes to the website and course pages, such as creating new pages, implementing improvements etc.
