The roleThis role sits within the CIO Office in Geneva and is responsible for end-to-end procurement, commercial management, and financial governance across Mercuria’s global technology estate, with a particular focus on IT services, software, and market data.
The position combines hands‑on operational execution with commercial ownership and transformation, supporting IT leadership and senior business stakeholders to optimise technology spend, manage vendor relationships, and professionalise procurement processes across a fast‑paced commodity trading environment.
The role actively promotes the adoption of data, automation, and AI-enabled capabilities within procurement activities
The role has global scope, high visibility, and regular exposure to senior management.
Key responsibilitiesIT & Market Data Procurement
- Manage the full procurement lifecycle for IT hardware, software, consultancy services, and market data
- Support and challenge new technology spend, ensuring alignment with commercial best practice and governance
- Act as a key interface between IT, business stakeholders, and external vendors
Market Data & Software Asset Management
- Own software and market data subscriptions (licenses, renewals, usage, compliance)
- Optimise costs through rationalisation and a strong understanding of vendor licensing models
- Support evolving business needs (new desks, usage, trading activities)
Commercial & Contract Management
- Manage IT contract renewals and vendor negotiations in collaboration with IT, Finance, and Legal
- Maintain accurate contract records and strong vendor relationships
- Monitor market trends and supplier roadmaps to anticipate risks and opportunities
- Track and analyse IT spend across software, hardware, consultancy, and market data
- Support IT financial reporting, forecasting and budget visibility
- Perform spend analysis to identify trends, risks, and optimisation opportunities
Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare and support PMO, procurement, and governance forums
- Produce high-quality reporting and materials for senior management and C-level audiences
- Liaise effectively with global internal stakeholders and external suppliers
- Promote strong procurement and compliance culture across the organisation.
- Drive the shift from reactive to proactive, value-driven procurement
- Lead process automation, digitalisation and self-service initiatives
- Leverage data, analytics and AI tools to enhance reporting, controls, decision‑making and operational efficiency
- Challenge tactical purchasing behaviours in favour of strategic procurement practices
- +3 years of experience in a similar role
- Proven experience in IT procurement, commercial management or technology finance
- Exposure to market data and software licensing within financial services, trading or a similar environment is highly desirable
- Experience operating in a fast‑paced, high‑change environment with senior stakeholders exposure
- Strong commercial and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret spend data and identify optimisation opportunities
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Interest in process improvement, automation and AI-enabled capabilities
- Self‑motivated and adaptable, with a strong desire to learn and develop
- Comfortable working under pressure and managing competing priorities
- Flexible and pragmatic in approach, suited to a trading-driven environment
- Confident presenting to senior management and executive audiences
- Highly organised, detail‑oriented and proactive
- Able to balance hands‑on execution with continuous improvement initiatives
