About the role

Trading operator at Maersk Energy Markets acts as the sourcing arm for Maersk in terms of supply, storage, purchase and delivery of fuel and energy. Fuel is one of Maersk’s main operating costs, so Energy Markets focuses on optimizing it across channels such as blending, tolling, cargoes and barging. You will be an integral part of our Front Office team, handling bunker fuel deliveries to Maersk’s Ocean fleet and other oil movements to and from third parties in Europe.

Your operational role involves optimizing commercial outcomes while ensuring minimal delays to customer vessels. You will coordinate closely with Trading partners and liaise with external counter parties—including suppliers, agents, terminal customer service, barge companies, surveyors and authorities—to guarantee smooth deliveries.

Key responsibilities
  • Own activities required for a smooth and continuous operation of barges, vessels, terminals and other assets we operate.
  • Deliver planning: manage supply/demand and schedule loads and deliveries from suppliers and terminals, and play a major role in blending preparation.
  • Collaborate closely with Trading on product movement planning and evaluate the commercial impact of decisions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with barge personnel and other service providers.
  • Conduct quality and quantity controls to ensure delivery of on‑spec fuel and maintain adequate loss control over the full product flow.
  • Monitor, improve and optimize barge operation performance so that barges are planned in the best possible way, minimizing idle time.
  • Maintain awareness of barge maintenance and docking schedules, and keep contingency plans for off‑hire events.
  • Review and approve OPEX costs related to the overall end‑to‑end delivery process under your scope.
  • Track and own barge demurrage on physical movements, ensuring claims are raised before they become time‑barred.
  • Support Finance in the month‑end process under your scope, including stock reconciliation and final gain/loss.
Qualifications
  • Commercially minded, energetic, pro‑active self‑starter with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in Oil & Gas operations, bunker barge operations and servicing B2B customers.
  • Academic education in commerce, administration, shipping & logistics or equivalent industry experience.
  • Motivated to continually improve commercial results, with a collaborative, team‑spirit mindset and positive attitude.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; fluency in Dutch is a plus.
What we offer
  • An exciting position within the Europe Operations team.
  • Opportunity to learn more about the wider shipping industry while developing strong commercial drive.
  • Chance to join a larger department actively working to decarbonise shipping and support Maersk’s net‑zero target by 2040.
  • A broad network of stakeholders within Maersk working together to solve complex, intellectually challenging problems.

Maersk is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we embrace different styles of thinking.
