You will join a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing more efficient superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities for future CERN accelerators. In this hands-on role, after dedicated training in the team you will contribute to the improvement of thin-film coating technologies through the design, fabrication, commissioning and operation of physical vapour deposition (PVD) equipment.
Your responsibilities- Design mechanical components and coating equipment using 3D CAD tools and produce the associated manufacturing and assembly drawings.
- Assemble, install, test, commission and operate physical vapour deposition coating systems and their associated equipment.
- Manufacture and modify metallic and ceramic components using conventional machining and computer numerical control (CNC)-based manufacturing techniques.
- Participate in coating activities, record operating parameters and document process procedures.
- Procure mechanical components for thin-film coating systems.
- Diagnose faults, carry out maintenance and implement mechanical improvements to existing coating systems.
