Communications and Programme Management Consultant

Organizational context:
The Beyond Lab, situated within the Office of the Director-General at the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), focuses on sustainable development, future generations, and social innovation. This consultancy aims to enhance the Lab's communication of its value to secure resources, improve operational efficiencies, and strengthen internal coordination.

Job purpose:

This consultancy will significantly enhance the Beyond Lab's strategic communications and storytelling capabilities. The primary purpose is to develop clear, compelling narratives that articulate the Lab's work on sustainable development, future generations, and social innovation, thereby supporting resource acquisition. The role will also focus on improving the quality and consistency of communications products across all initiatives, fostering creative outreach approaches to engage diverse audiences, and inspiring action.

Additionally, the consultancy will streamline operational workflows, strengthen internal communication coordination, and translate complex research and ideas into accessible and engaging content for various stakeholders, including Member States, UN entities, civil society, and potential funders.

Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for strengthening the Beyond Lab's brand strategy, positioning, and narrative execution across its portfolio and partnerships. This includes translating complex work into compelling, audience-specific stories and developing strategic messaging for key areas such as policy innovation, new economy, anticipatory governance, and multilateral reform. The role involves creating diverse communications products, including presentations, web content, and social media assets.

Furthermore, the consultant will support advocacy and outreach activities, tailoring content for various stakeholders like Member States, UN entities, and civil society. Strategic support for donor engagement, partnership development, and resource mobilization is crucial, requiring the creation of investment cases and funding briefs. The consultant will also translate research and findings into accessible communication products, coordinate communications priorities, and provide strategic advice on messaging and branding consistency.

Education:

An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in communications, marketing, environmental management, social/behavioral science, international relations, or a related field is required. Alternatively, two years of relevant experience may substitute for an advanced degree. Fluency in English and French is mandatory, with knowledge of Spanish being desirable.

Work experience:

A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in strategic communications, brand strategy, audience marketing, storytelling, or communications research is required. Experience in developing communications strategies and translating complex information for diverse audiences is desirable. Experience in audience research, campaign development, event production, content creation, and workshop facilitation is also beneficial.
