The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) is a voluntarily funded, autonomous institution within the United Nations. One of the few policy institutes worldwide focusing on disarmament, UNIDIR generates knowledge and promotes dialogue and action on disarmament and security. Based in Geneva, UNIDIR assists the international community to develop the practical, innovative ideas needed to find solutions to critical security problems.

UNIDIR’s Integrated Approaches – Gender and Disarmament Programme is looking for a Graduate Professional to assist with research and support the implementation of programme activities. The overall objectives of the Programme are to generate policy-relevant knowledge and provide multilateral practitioners with practical tools to apply a gender perspective to the substance of their work, as well as to support youth engagement across all areas of arms control and disarmament.

Responsibilities

Within UNIDIR’s Integrated Approaches – Gender and Disarmament Programme, and under the supervision of the Head of Programme, the Graduate Professional will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of Programme activities (e.g. meetings, workshops, conferences, field missions);
  • Contributing to day-to-day tasks, including communication, coordination and administrative matters;
  • Performing other tasks, as required by Programme staff.
Key skills and interests
  • Research and presentation skills;
  • Ability to synthesize information into concise, high-quality written briefs;
  • Organizational and coordination skills for managing multiple tasks;
  • Interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills (written and oral);
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Canva and InDesign;
  • Interest in international peace and security, disarmament, gender issues, youth engagement and the work of the United Nations.
