Associate Information Analyst, Political Affairs

Organizational context:
The Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP) was established by the UN General Assembly in June 2023. This role, reporting to a Human Rights Officer, is based in Geneva but may be subject to relocation to Damascus, Syria, or other operational locations.

Job purpose:

The Associate Information Analyst supports the IIMP's mandate by assisting in the research and collection of multi-source information on missing persons in Syria. This involves targeted open-source research, reviewing and assessing data for relevance and reliability, and identifying patterns and trends. The role contributes to the compilation and structuring of information across cases and supports the maintenance of databases. Additionally, the analyst prepares analytical summaries and participates in consultations to facilitate information exchange and analysis related to missing persons cases within the Syrian context.

The Associate Information Analyst is responsible for assisting in the research and collection of multi-source information concerning missing persons in the Syrian Arab Republic, including open-source research in Arabic and English. This includes reviewing and assessing information for relevance, reliability, and identifying patterns. The role involves compiling, cross-referencing, and structuring data across various sources and maintaining databases. The analyst will contribute to analytical summaries, assessments, and visualizations for senior colleagues.

Participation in meetings with colleagues and external partners to support information exchange and analysis, and staying informed on Syrian context developments, are also key duties.

An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in fields such as criminology, law, Middle Eastern studies, conflict studies, international relations, human rights, or information management is required. A first-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. Certification or training in intelligence analysis is desirable.

A minimum of two years of progressive experience in research, information analysis, data analysis, information management, or open-source research is required. Desirable experience includes collecting and assessing information from multiple sources, using databases and analytical software, and working on issues related to missing persons, human rights, or conflict-affected contexts, particularly in the Syrian or Middle East region.
