Body Production Engineering Department Engineer
We are seeking a passionate and highly motivated Engineer to join our Body Production Engineering Department. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the introduction of new vehicle manufacturing processes, including strategic planning and process improvement, with a focus on body welding. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams to support departmental and manufacturing goals related to safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
Responsibilities- Develop new model introduction strategies, including process improvement plans, plant layouts, capacity analysis, investment requirements, and project justifications.
- Conduct simultaneous engineering with styling, body design, logistic services, manufacturing, and equipment suppliers to enhance new model designs.
- Lead process development through design, machine specification, equipment procurement, installation, safety risk assessments, production trials, and handover to manufacturing.
- Support manufacturing innovation and implementation, including new materials, joining methods, quality inspection, logistics, automation, electrification, and digital engineering.
- Ensure body parts, subassemblies, and finished vehicles meet quality standards for weld integrity, dimensional compliance, surface quality, and other process requirements.
- Travel up to 30% as needed for onsite investigations, modifications, and milestone meetings.
- Work independently and collaboratively to support project activities and milestones.
- Interact with multiple customers and outside groups to collaborate, resolve issues, and provide status reports.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD with experience in AutoCAD, Catia, Solid Works, and Creo.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office and other CAD software.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or 6 years of equivalent engineering experience.
- Ability to work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and shutdown periods.
- Domestic and international travel capability, up to 30%.
Skills & Qualifications
- Automotive pre‑production or manufacturing engineering experience.
- Experience in automation, tooling/jig design, and equipment procurement.
- Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
- Design for Manufacturing / Simultaneous Engineering experience.
- Internal Logistics experience, including route planning and simulations.
- Quality Process Set Up experience, including containment and nondestructive inspection.
- Project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and problem‑solving.
The position is based at the PEMC location and requires the ability to work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and shutdown periods in July and the end of December. The role involves travel up to 30% internationally, including to Canada, Mexico, and Japan. The work schedule may require flexibility across multiple shifts to support tooling modifications and installation projects.
Job Type & LocationContract position based out of Georgetown, KY.
Pay And BenefitsPay range: $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
