Surgical Technologist in Hospital

Overview

Georgetown Community Hospital just a 12 minute drive from Lexington, KY is searching for a Surgical Technologist to join our Surgical Services Department in the Operating Room. This is Full-Time and DAY shift and you would be a member of a highly skilled team assisting the nurses, surgeons and anesthesiologists in the delivery of optimal patient care. Your graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology, BLS certification, and 1 year previous Operating Room work experience are the minimum requirements.

• Graduate from an accredited school of Surgical Technology
• Certification of Surgical Technology preferred
• 1 year of work experience in Operating Room environment
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
• Proficient with use of patient care equipment, instrumentation supplies and techniques
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Strong flexibility is needed to float between different departments as instructed or as needs determine.

• Familiar with the purpose and function of surgical instrumentation, equipment and supplies
• Ensure delivery of patient care and assist professional nursing personnel in providing care
• Revise plan of patient care as needed
• Recognize the needs of the patient and nurses and revise the plan of care as needed
• Provide compassion to the patient and patient’s family members
• Primary function is as a scrub person, but may assist with circulating duties under the supervision of an RN who is immediately available
• May perform clerical duties including: scheduling surgical procedures, maintaining records, patient charges, collection of CQI data, sending and receiving messages, relaying messages for surgeons in the OR, performing errands to other departments, obtaining additional supplies for OR team
• Assist with transporting, moving, and positioning of patients
• Responsible for taking inventory, ordering, receiving and putting up supplies/inventory in the Operating Room, Central Sterile, and PACU
• Routine duties include stocking, replenishing, preparing, selecting supplies and equipment for immediate use during operations
• Assist with housekeeping duties regarding instrumentation (cleaning, inspecting for integrity, assembly, packaging, sterilizing) and for safe environment (cleaning of supply shelving and cabinets)
