The Manager in Training assists the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager with overall operations and administration. The role requires knowledge of each department, helps set action plans, and promotes sales and promotions. When the Store Manager is absent, the Manager in Training takes supervisory control and applies the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager in controlling the assets of Hibbett.
- Consult with the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager to establish action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
- Assume responsibility for the entire store in the absence of the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager.
- Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers in all departments when necessary.
- Maintain awareness of inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to ensure profitability.
- Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
- Keep the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
- Ensure quality customer service is maintained.
- Perform general administrative duties as needed and receive training in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
- Deliver extraordinary customer service as highlighted in the customer service manual, including assisting customers upon entry and during peak periods.
- Promote and sell services and merchandise provided by Hibbett.
- Practice and uphold all Hibbett City Gear policies, procedures, and standards as outlined in the operations policy manual, personnel policy manual, visual manual, customer service manual, and memos.
- Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring accurate internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks.
- Supervise employees in the absence of the Store Manager, including interviewing, training, planning, assigning, directing work, and resolving problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
- Experience in a retail environment, preferably footwear and athletic apparel.
- 1–3 years of customer service experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
- Self‑starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
- Strong attention to detail, managing multiple tasks simultaneously with precision.
