General Description / PurposeThe Engineer I, Electrical is responsible for developing and maintaining electromechanical system designs under the direction of a senior engineer or manager. They provide direction to designers and drafters regarding the documentation of their designs. Provides engineering support to internal and external customers and performs other tasks as assigned.
Essential Job Functions- Translate requirements into a system architecture and detailed design.
- Design and integrate industrial automation and control systems including PLC controls, motor controls, and general machine controls.
- Determine feasibility of modifying existing or designing new equipment considering costs, time limitations, and other technical and economic factors.
- Validate designs through analysis and testing.
- Coordinate own design efforts to meet production schedules and provide project task estimates and updates to project team.
- Education:
BS in Electrical Engineering. - Experience:
0+ years developing and maintaining electromechanical system designs. - Licenses/Certifications:
Obtain and maintain railroad safety training and credentials. - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of business software including MS Office suite;
Collaborate with others to clarify requirements and develop solutions;
Lead design reviews consisting of multi-disciplined and cross‑functional team members.
- Education:
MS in Electrical Engineering. - Experience:
0+ years in 480
VAC power generation and distribution;
Engine/generator controls;
Industrial automation and control systems;
Electrical traction systems (DC & AC);
Motor controls and variable speed drives. - Licenses/Certifications:
EIT. - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge in Autodesk and ERP software.
- Office deskwork: sitting, walking, using phone & computer.
- Travel: 25% in first year, up to 5% including international going forward.
- Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
- Variable and challenging conditions during visits/inspections of company equipment in a railroad environment.
